ESP-Mosaico: Espressif's modular board built for AI agents
Chat with an AI, and it writes, deploys and tests code on a real device. ESP-Mosaico is a small square ESP32 board with a touch AMOLED screen, magnetic modules and open-source firmware.
Espressif, the company behind the ESP32 chips that power countless maker projects, has a new board aimed squarely at AI-assisted building: ESP-Mosaico, "built for AI agents".
The idea
You describe what you want in a chat. An AI agent writes the code, deploys it to the device and tests it on real hardware. Ask for a Tetris game, and it appears on the screen.
Hardware
- Chip: ESP32-S31 with a dual-core RISC-V CPU (up to 320 MHz), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, Thread and Zigbee
- Screen: 2.16-inch square 480×480 AMOLED touchscreen
- Built in: microphone, speaker, motion sensors (IMU and magnetometers) and a battery
- Modules: camera and interaction modules attach with magnets
- Tiling: several units can be joined and work together
Open by design
The firmware is open source and works with ChatGPT, Claude and DeepSeek, and 3D-printable STL files are published for cases.
Price
On the official store, the Vision Combo Kit costs $59 as a pre-order, with an estimated dispatch time of around 15 days.
For makers who want an AI-friendly playground with a real screen, ESP-Mosaico is one of the most interesting boards of the year.
